Svalbox is a platform for tying published material together in one geospatially consistent database for easy access and direct intergration. Clearly we will never be able to digitize and integrate every geoscientific publication from Svalbard, but by systematically digitizing key literature we are continuously expanding the database.
On the other hand, we hope that the geoscience community will embrace the open data offered through Svalbox and use it to conduct their own research – the publications from which will also be ¨listed here.
Svalbox 4 Research
Peer-reviewed publications describing or using Svalbox
While there are a number of publications about Svalbox itself, we particularly welcome contributions from the scientific community that actively use Svalbox data in their research.
Svalbox 4 Education
Svalbox-affiliated MSc and PhD theses
Svalbox is a platform to help develop the next generation of Arctic data-geoscientists. Our students are offered workflows, hardware and resources to conduct field work – and a platform to develop their unique individual careers. If you are interested in conducting a thesis in conjunction with the Svalbox team feel free to reach out.

Svalbox 4 Society
Outreach and media coverage
As a sustainable digitization effort in exotic Svalbard we received our fair share of media attention, the outcomes of which are presented here.
Svalbox 4 Conferences
Presentations at conferences, workshops and elsewhere
To increase the usage of Svalbox beyond UNIS we actively promote Svalbox and present both the platform and various case studies at conferences, workshops, webinars and other relevant events.
Svalbox 4 Integration
Scientific work integrated in Svalbox
The strength of Svalbox lies in the long-term goal to digitize and integrate key geoscientific data sets from Svalbard in databases to facilitate education and research while minimizing time needed for setting up project databases. The non-exhaustive list below is already included and more can be requested by contacting us.
